The 2024 China Yichang Chaotianhou Natural Waters International Rafting Competition kicks off this Saturday in Xingshan County.

The competition is categorized into professional, college and amateur groups. Each team is comprised of two rafters. About 1,400 participants from 620 teams are expected to compete on the same course. Three Olympic gold medal winners and three world champions will be the first to sail down the stream and mark the official start of the competition.

Chaotianhou Rafting Scenic Spot is about 100 kilometers from urban Yichang. With a length of 6 kilometers and an accumulative drop of 148 meters, it has held 10 international natural waters rafting competitions since 2012. More than 60,000 athletes from 103 countries and regions have come here to compete.

The scenic spot not only offers thrilling opportunities for rafting but also sightseeing, racing, camping and BBQ. With its fast-flowing rapids, this destination is sure to get your adrenaline pumping as you experience the thrill of whitewater rafting.

In 2022, 15 million yuan (US$2.07 million) was invested to illuminate the entire area, becoming the first among more than 50 rafting scenic areas in Hubei Province to offer night rafting.

Starting from July 6, a new tunnel rafting course will open to the public. It is 4.7 kilometers long, including 3.3 kilometers of canyon rafting and 1.4 kilometers of tunnel rafting, and features an immersive experience of light, shadow and sound.
