City enjoys travel and consumption boom during May Day holiday

The five-day May Day holiday spurred a tourism and consumption boom in Yichang, with large numbers of domestic and international tourists visiting local attractions, shopping malls and restaurants.
During this year’s holiday, about 239,000 passengers passed through Yichang East Railway Station, an increase of 6 percent compared to the same period last year. The last day of the holiday saw the highest number of return passengers reaching around 64,000.
Yichang Sanxia International Airport handled 53,000 passengers during the holiday, averaging over 10,000 trips per day, up 12.8 percent from last year. Among these visitors, over 2,000 were international travelers, primarily from South Korea, Vietnam, and Thailand.
The city launched two new boutique travel routes and organized more than 300 cultural activities to celebrate the holiday.
Bookings for hotels and tourist attractions in Yichang on platforms such as Ctrip, Meituan, and Qunar increased by more than 40 percent year-on-year.

Popular destinations such as the Three Gorges Dam Tourist Area and Tribe of the Three Gorges Scenic Area implemented daily visitor caps to manage the large crowds.
"Three Gorges Eternal Love,” the main show at Sanxia Romance Park, set a new daily record with 10 consecutive performances on May 2.
Throughout the May Day holiday, total sales from 11 large commercial complexes in Yichang totaled about 132 million yuan (US$18.3 million), up 6.45 percent from the same period in 2024.
Yichang's signature foods were also in high demand. Each day, more than 300,000 red oil baozi and 120,000 fatty fish dishes were sold, generating an estimated 120 million yuan in catering revenue.
