Three Gorges Dam ship locks top 2.2 billion tons in cargo

June 18 marked 22 years since the Three Gorges Dam ship locks opened. Since 2003, they’ve been used 215,000 times, helping more than 1 million vessels carry over 12.2 million passengers and 2.24 billion tons of cargo. The ship locks have played a key role in improving Yangtze River navigation.
