The first phase of this high-end food ingredient processing park involves an investment of 1.75 billion yuan (US$244 million). It will focus on the production of yeast protein, high-nucleic acid yeast extract, special yeast and other high value-added products.
Angel Yeast (Yichang) Co., Ltd. is the world’s second-largest yeast producer, accounting for 20 percent of the global yeast market and 55 percent of the domestic market.
"The construction progress of the specialty yeast and the yeast protein projects has reached 80 percent," said Xiang Zuoyao, Civil Engineering Manager of Angel Yichang High-tech Zone Company. "Functional integration into the entire plant area is scheduled for late June."
The yeast protein and specialty yeast projects involve over 2,000 sets of production equipment. Many are large, non-standard units requiring on-site fabrication and installation. The construction team aims to complete equipment installation by the end of July, with integrated commissioning targeted for August.
The new park includes four major components: grain storage and supporting facilities, a carbon source base, a special yeast production plant, and a yeast protein production plant. Among them, the grain storage and carbon source base projects have already been completed and are operational. Construction of the park's energy center and environmental facilities is also moving forward quickly.
Once fully completed, the park will establish a comprehensive industrial chain spanning grain-based products, carbon-based products, bio-manufacturing and bio-synthesis. It will further strengthen Yichang City's bio-manufacturing industry cluster.
