Yichang's foreign trade up 13.2% in Jan-May

Yichang recorded strong growth in foreign trade during the first five months of 2025, with total trade reaching 21.12 billion yuan (US$2.94 billion), up 13.2 percent year-on-year.

Exports grew 13.9 percent to 16.54 billion yuan compared with the same period last year while imports rose 10.7 percent to 4.58 billion yuan.

General trade accounted for 91 percent of total trade, rising 32.3 percent to 19.22 billion yuan. Processing trade and bonded logistics trade contributed 720 million yuan and 1.13 billion yuan, respectively.

Private companies led the surge, generating 16.29 billion yuan in foreign trade, marking a 14.6 percent increase year-on-year. State-owned enterprises accounted for 2.51 billion yuan, while foreign-invested firms saw a notable 39 percent rise to 2.31 billion yuan.

ASEAN remained Yichang's top trading partner, with trade growing 33.2 percent to 5.6 billion yuan. Trade with Belt and Road countries rose 24.3 percent to 13.46 billion yuan. Trade with Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) member countries rose by 19.9 percent to 7.93 billion yuan.

Electromechanical products (4.64 billion yuan), labor-intensive goods (2.95 billion yuan), and agricultural products (1.7 billion yuan) were the top exports. Major imports included agricultural products (760 million yuan), basic organic chemicals (680 million yuan), and electromechanical products (600 million yuan).
