Yichang High-tech Zone is accelerating the development of an industrial cluster focused on key materials for power batteries.

Tianjiahe Park is drawing in a new generation of material projects dedicated to the development and production of core components used in power batteries.

Battery cells are the core components of new energy power batteries. Their basic structure includes crucial materials such as cathodes, anodes, and electrolytes.

At the Tianjiahe Park, several projects related to key battery cell materials are currently under construction.

Hubei Firstro Innovation Materials Co., Ltd.'s new generation lithium battery electrolyte core material project is expected to be put into trial production later this year.

"Our product has three advantages over the current electrolytes. It has higher safety, better low-temperature performance, and more charge-discharge cycles," said Zuo Weixiong, chairman of Firstro.

The electrolyte, often referred to as the "porter" in the battery cell, transfers ions between the cathode and anode, ensuring that the power battery achieves high voltage and high specific energy.

The main raw materials required for Fistro's production in this project can be sourced locally in Tianjiahe Park, which is an important reason for companies to settle here.

"From the supply chain perspective, the park can supply all raw materials except lithium," said Zuo.

In addition, Yichang High-tech Zone is building an industrial park for anode materials. The park is focused on next-generation technologies and products with advantages in battery life, charging efficiency and safety.

Hubei Jiangxin New Materials Co., Ltd. is the first silicon-carbon anode material enterprise to settle in Yichang. This company specializes in anode materials for new energy lithium batteries and is known for its cutting-edge technology.

Silicon-carbon anode material is widely regarded as the most anticipated next-generation battery material in the industry.

The company plans to invest 1 billion yuan (US$139.66 million) to promote the industrialization of new silicon-carbon anode materials in the high-tech zone through two phases.

"The project started construction in last December and can enter the trial production stage in August and September this year," said Yang Shiping, project leader of the company's silicon-carbon anode new material project.

Leveraging the advantages of its chemical park platform and industrial chain, the High-Tech Zone actively attracts leading enterprises, leaders of industry chains and innovative enterprises to accelerate the transformation of the chemical industry toward new energy and new materials industries.

"Our biggest advantage lies in raw materials. Silane gas is the main raw material for anode materials. By establishing silicon-carbon anode enterprises in the park, we can address the safety and environmental protection issues related to silane gas transportation through public pipeline corridors," said Tan Benxiang, director of the Management Office of Baiyang Industrial Park.

In recent years, Yichang High-tech Zone has signed 26 new energy projects, with total committed investment exceeding 85 billion yuan.
