The China Three Gorges Corporation announced that the Three Gorges project operated with high stability and efficiency in the first half of 2025, providing significant benefits in shipping, water supply, and ecological management.

The Three Gorges Dam is vital for improving navigation on the Yangtze River. In the first half of 2025, shipping throughput via the dam reached 83.08 million tons, a 10.4 percent increase from the previous year, according to the Three Gorges Navigation Authority.
The dam's ship locks were utilized 5,205 times, handling 81.61 million tons, representing a year-on-year growth of 13.52 percent.
During this period, total inflow into the Three Gorges Reservoir reached 133.5 billion cubic meters, exceeding the preliminary designvalue by 4 percent.
Through precise regulation, the reservoir maintained a daily outflow of over 7,000 cubic meters per second—17 percent above the required minimum—ensuring a stable water supply for the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
The reservoir also launched ecological initiatives, including three biological regulation experiments to promote fish reproduction and two sediment-flushing operations. These efforts removed 1.95 million cubic meters of accumulated sediment, enhancing the dam's long-term stability and flood control capacity.
Meanwhile, the Three Gorges Power Station maintained stable electricity generation, providing a reliable supply of clean, renewable energy.
