The Xiangyang-Yichang Expressway marked a significant milestone with the opening of its first tunnel on July 12.

The right tunnel of the Jinpinshan Tunnel, part of the Yichang section of the Xiangyang-Yichang Expressway, has been completed 22 days ahead of schedule.
The Jinpingshan Tunnel in Yuan’an County, Yichang City, spans 640 meters and was completed 22 days ahead of schedule.
The 143-kilometer Xiangyang-Yichang Expressway, costing 24.6 billion yuan (US$3.43 billion), aims to enhance connectivity between Xiangyang and Yichang in Hubei Province and promote regional integration with Sichuan and Chongqing provinces.
The Yichang section of the expressway is expected to be fully operational by 2027, reducing travel time between Xiangyang and Yichang from 3 hours to just 1.5 hours.
