From January to July this year, the Three Gorges Hub handled more than 98.58 million tons of cargo, a year-on-year increase of 15.3 percent.

The hub’s navigation facilities include the two-way, five-tier Three Gorges Ship Locks and the Three Gorges Ship Lift.

The ship lift began trial operations on September 18, 2016 forming a joint navigation pass with the Three Gorges locks. Large ships "climb the stairs" via the locks, while smaller vessels "take the lift.”

This setup plays an important role in boosting shipping development and reducing transportation costs.

The China Three Gorges Corporation reported that the project has significantly supported flood control, power generation, water replenishment, and ecological improvements, laying a strong foundation for the high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
