On August 18, GAC’s Yichang plant opened its doors to reporters, showcasing a highly sophisticated and efficient production environment. On the factory floor, robotic arms and intelligent AGV vehicles worked in coordination, reflecting the plant’s advanced level of automation.

GAC’s Yichang plant showcases an advanced level of automation.

The plant has established five major workshops: stamping, welding, painting, resin, and final assembly. Leveraging technologies such as IoT, AI, and cloud computing for high automation, the facility is able to produce a vehicle every 52 seconds. In 2024, it manufactured more than 110,000 vehicles and from January to July this year, production reached 61,000.

Following an upgrade to its production lines last year to accommodate plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), the Yichang plant commenced large-scale PHEV manufacturing in July, with 700 units already produced. Looking ahead, the plant aims to reach an annual output of 200,000 vehicles by 2027, supporting the transformation and growth of Yichang’s automotive industry.

The Yichang plant has a total investment of 3.53 billion yuan (US$491.5 million) and covers an area of nearly 1 million square meters and has a building area exceeding 250,000 square meters. It now manufactures A and B-class traditional, new energy, and intelligent vehicles.
