The Three Gorges Power Station reached full capacity for the first time this year at 6:45 am on September 9, generating 22.5 gigawatts of electricity.

According to China Yangtze Power, by 6:45 pm, all 110 generating units across the world's largest clean energy corridor, which includes six major hydropower stations, were running at maximum output, delivering more than 70 gigawatts. During the previous day, the corridor produced over 1.4 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, supplying power to East and Central China, as well as the provinces of Sichuan, Chongqing, Yunnan, and Guangdong.

The corridor, formed by the Wudongde, Baihetan, Xiluodu, Xiangjiaba, Three Gorges, and Gezhouba hydropower stations, has a total installed capacity of 71.695 gigawatts and generates about 300 terawatt-hours annually. That’s enough to meet the yearly residential electricity needs of over 300 million people. It also saves more than 90 million tons of standard coal and cuts over 240 million tons of CO₂ emissions each year.
