A total of 2,857 solar streetlights have been installed across 50 villages in Yichang, marking the completion of this year’s "Lighting Up Rural Roads" project.

To improve nighttime visibility and resolve long-standing issues of dark or poorly lit roads, Yichang made solar streetlight installation a key livelihood initiative in 2024.

The new units were mainly placed in high-traffic public areas within villages, including main roads, densely populated residential zones, and cultural or sports squares.

The Yichang Rural Energy Office, together with local counties and districts, selected the installation sites and upgraded technical standards.

According to Liu Ying, director of the Yichang Rural Energy Office, each streetlight has a pole height of over six meters, a photoelectric conversion rate above 17 percent, and can provide continuous lighting for more than 10 cloudy or rainy days.

Compared with earlier models, the new streetlights offer a wider illumination range and higher energy storage efficiency. In terms of design and placement, personalized lighting solutions were developed by closely integrating village planning, cultural tourism themes, and leading local industries.

Zigui County, Dianjun District, and other areas innovated their acceptance procedures by conducting on-site inspections at night or after rainfall. This was done to verify the streetlights' sealing performance, lighting effect, and wiring safety, ensuring each unit functions properly.

In Wangzhouping Village of Dianjun District, located at an average altitude of 600 meters, 47 new solar streetlights now brighten the main road.

"Since the streetlights were installed, villagers no longer have to walk in the dark at night. It's so convenient," said Li Hongquan, secretary of the Party general branch. "There are also significantly more merchants coming to the mountains to buy fruit, and the fruit sells much faster!"
