By the end of the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021–2025), Yichang's highway network will extend to 38,700 kilometers, according to the Yichang Transportation Bureau. This total includes 34,800 kilometers of rural roads, making it the longest in Hubei Province for 15 consecutive years.

By the end of this year, Yichang's expressway mileage will reach 840 kilometers, enhanced by 3,166 kilometers of national and provincial highways linking urban and rural areas. Over 95 percent of the city's towns now have access to secondary highways, and nearly 80 percent of administrative villages are connected by two-lane roads. The city's 46 agricultural parks and 28 characteristic towns are also accessible via scenic roads.

Public bus services now fully cover the urban area, including connections between urban and rural regions. Urban buses operate 100,000 kilometers daily, serving nearly 300,000 passengers. This includes 32 new routes and 106 optimized routes, reaching all communities, industrial zones, campuses, and commercial districts.

Safety and convenience have improved significantly. Yichang has conducted geological hazard inspections along all 748 kilometers of operational expressways. The city has also installed 354 standard charging piles at 122 locations along highways, averaging 25 kilometers apart. Additionally, Yichang has launched the province's first taxi service assistance center, providing 24/7 support and helping 6,836 passengers recover lost property valued at 11.57 million yuan (US$1.62 million).
