Designed for speeds up to 350 km/h, the 313-kilometer line features eight stations, with Hankou Station being existing and Hanchuan North, Tianmen, Jingshan South, Zhongxiang South, Jingmen West, Dangyang West, and Yichang North as newly constructed.

Construction started in September 2021, with track laying finished by January 2025. Integration and testing began in May, involving comprehensive tests on infrastructure and systems. The test results showed all equipment met design standards, ready for operation.

Once completed, the Wuhan-Yichang line will enable one-hour travel between Wuhan, Xiangyang, and Yichang, connecting 10 cities in Hubei Province, enhancing regional transportation, and serving the high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt .
