Citrus varieties such as Zao Hong, Newhall navel oranges, and ponkans are now hitting the market in Yichang. From the start of 2025 to January 8, 2026, the city sold a total of 3.47 million tons of citrus, with average daily sales of around 8,000 tons.

At a navel orange plantation in Yichang’s Zhijiang area, Newhall navel oranges are being harvested. In grower Su Mingyu's orchard, workers are busy picking and packing fruit for shipment to destinations such as Hebei Province. The harvest season is boosting local incomes and creating jobs, with villagers earning more than 200 yuan (US$28) per day from picking work.

Meanwhile, e-commerce livestreaming has become an important sales channel. At the Lujianlin Cooperative's orchard, livestreamer Xinghouer (a nickname meaning “lucky small monkey”) promotes local navel oranges to a nationwide online audience. Yang Lu, the cooperative's e-commerce manager, said integrated online and offline sales have significantly expanded their market reach this year.

Zhijiang's push to integrate e-commerce with agriculture has helped build a service network supporting 220 agri-e-commerce firms and 30 supply chain bases. Online sales of agricultural products have reached 860 million yuan, with more than 100 farmers trained in digital sales and livestreaming, creating about 26,000 jobs.
