Three Gorges Dam tourism surges 19% in Q1

The Three Gorges Dam scenic area received 563,500 visitors during the first quarter of 2026, a 19.25 percent increase year on year and a new quarterly record, according to China Three Gorges Base Development Co., Ltd.
Spring travel demand and favorable policies boosted the site's popularity. During the week-long Spring Festival holiday, the scenic area welcomed more than 190,000 visitors from the first to the seventh day of the lunar new year, up 73.6 percent year on year.
As temperatures rose, peach and cherry blossoms bloomed across the site. A flower field at Platform 196 became a popular spot for spring sightseeing. Large tour groups, including chartered trains, flights, and cruise ships, also arrived to visit the hydropower project.
The scenic area has gained popularity in recent years, receiving more than 3.2 million visitors annually for three consecutive years. Looking ahead, the site plans to upgrade the 185 Park area and introduce cultural heritage activities and study tours. Company officials said these efforts aim to turn the mega-dam into a cultural and confidence-building landmark, boosting the high-quality development of cultural tourism.
