The wheat harvest season has begun in Yichang, as golden fields across the city enter one of their busiest times of the year.

On May 14, large combine harvesters moved across vast wheat fields in Chuhu Village, harvesting and threshing wheat simultaneously.

Zhujiahu Grain Cooperative, one of the first local cooperatives to begin harvesting this year, has planted around 253 hectares of wheat. According to the cooperative, its four harvesters can cover about 53 hectares per day, allowing the entire harvest to be completed within five days.

With more rainy days expected, local farmers are racing against time to bring in the crop and reduce potential losses. The cooperative’s grain drying center has been operating at full capacity and can dry up to 1,300 tons of wheat per day, helping nearby farmers protect their harvests from damp conditions.

This year, Yichang’s wheat planting area has reached nearly 37,293 hectares. Equipped with smart technologies such as Beidou-guided smart terminals, modern farm machinery is helping improve harvesting efficiency across the city.
