Yichang builds pumped storage plant

The Changyang Qingjiang Pumped Storage Power Station is under construction in Changyang Tujia Autonomous County, Yichang, Hubei Province. It is the only pumped storage power station in China located within a county seat.
The station uses an upper reservoir on the mountaintop and a lower reservoir at the foot of the mountain. During peak electricity demand, water flows downhill to generate power. During off-peak hours, water is pumped back uphill to store energy.
The project has an installed capacity of 1.2 million kilowatts and is expected to generate 1.34 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.
Once operational, it is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1.132 million tons each year and generate an annual output value of 820 million yuan (US$120 million).
The station will also work together with wind and solar power plants to create an integrated energy base combining wind, solar, hydropower, and energy storage.
