Local port group reports strong profit, revenue growth

From January to June, Yichang Port Group’s operating profit rose more than 32 percent from a year earlier, while revenue increased more than 26 percent. The major local port operator handled nearly 17 million tons of cargo, up nearly 7 percent year on year. Container throughput reached 152,100 TEUs, an increase of 14 percent from a year earlier.

Yichang Port Group operates five major ports in Yichang: Zhicheng, Baiyang, Yunchi, Yidu, and Zigui.
Each port posted notable gains. Zhicheng Port established new export channels for coal from Shanxi and Xinjiang provinces. Yunchi Port expanded its storage capacity from 20,000 to 80,000 tons. Baiyang Port recorded a 4.44 percent increase in chemical cargo throughput and transshipped 392,000 tons of cargo for chemical companies. Yidu Port handled 460,000 tons of sand to support construction of the Yichang–Fuling high-speed railway. Working with Yidu Port, Zigui Port completed the first cross-dam intermodal shipment of flexible intermediate bulk containers.
The group expanded its “one enterprise, one policy” service model and added 34 new clients in the first half of the year. These new partnerships are expected to contribute an additional 3.48 million tons of cargo throughput during the rest of the year.
