On July 21, the world's largest PHA production line at Hubei Phangel Biotechnology is in full operation.
The system produces PHA (Polyhydroxyalkanoate), a natural polymer synthesized through microbial fermentation. PHA offers excellent thermoplastic processability, biocompatibility, and biodegradability, making it an ideal green alternative to conventional plastics.
Invested in by Hubei Phangel Biotechnology Co., Ltd. the project is China's first 10,000-ton-level PHA production line. Each fermenter in the production line has a capacity of 396 cubic meters, the largest single-tank capacity for PHA fermentation in the world.
Phangel Biotechnology is currently advancing R&D through three parallel approaches: strain iteration, raw material substitution, and process optimization, aiming to further reduce PHA production costs by 30 percent.
The company utilizes an intelligent manufacturing system, achieving an automation rate of up to 90 percent.
Phangel Biotechnology was jointly established by PhaBuilder and Angel Yeast in 2022. The company is based in the Synthetic Biology Industrial Park in Xiaoting District, Yichang.
