The first 25 resettlement buildings for families relocated due to the Three Gorges New Waterway Project have been topped out. They will provide new homes for 1,260 residents and is scheduled for completion by the end of July 2027.

The main structure of the resettlement housing for the Three Gorges waterway project has been topped out.

Covering 560 mu (37.3 hectares), the resettlement project will include 1,644 housing units for 3,552 people. The first batch of 25 buildings includes 20 residential buildings with 536 units. Supporting facilities will include a farmer’s market, community health clinic, primary school, secondary school, and kindergarten.

The Three Gorges New Waterway Project, with an investment of 77.2-billion-yuan (US$11.3 billion), will add a five-tier, dual-track ship lock north of the existing lock at the Three Gorges Dam, the world's largest water conservancy project. It will also upgrade navigation facilities at the Gezhouba Dam, a smaller downstream dam. The project is expected to nearly double the annual navigation capacity of the Three Gorges to 336 million ton.

A total of 9,729 people from seven villages will be relocated to make way for the project.

Under the coordination of the local command center, each village has selected a resident to serve as a quality supervisor for the resettlement buildings. Five on-site Q&A sessions have been organized to address residents’ concerns.
