Located on the left bank of the Qing River, 5.5 kilometers from Geheyan Dam, the station provides grid regulation, energy storage, and emergency backup. Its first unit is due online in 2029 and full operation will start in 2030.

A key national 14th Five-Year Plan energy project, the station has an estimated investment of nearly 8.87 billion yuan (US$1.32 billion) and a designed capacity of 1.2 million kW to strengthen Central China’s power-grid security and support clean-energy consumption. Once completed, it will generate 1.34 billion kWh of electricity annually, equivalent to the annual electricity needs of 1.3 million Chinese families. It is expected to cut CO₂ emissions by 1.132 million tons each year.
