Known as the Olympics of Skills, WorldSkills is the world's premier vocational skills competition and is held biennially.
The dental prosthetics technology event combines medicine, aesthetics, materials science, and digital manufacturing. Precision is critical, with tiny differences affecting final scores. Top contestants from around the world pushed the competition level to a new high in Shanghai.
The event began on September 23 and lasted four days. Guo competed in modules including digital scanning, restoration design, precision shaping, and polishing.

“When I stood on the podium, what flashed through my mind were all those late nights of repeated practice,” Guo, 21, said with tears in her eyes. “This gold medal belongs not just to me, but to everyone who keeps going quietly on the path of skills.”
Liang Shanshan, a competition judge and head of the Chinese expert group for the dental prosthetics project, said: “Guo’s work reached an extremely high level in precision control and aesthetic presentation, demonstrating the qualities of a young Chinese craftsperson.”
Yichang has long promoted vocational skills training and built multi-level competition platforms.
“Skills change the world and light up the future. Guo Xiating is a role model for young people pursuing skills. We hope more young people will enter this arena, build careers with skills, and become solid support for Yichang’s development,” said Xiang Jun, Party secretary and director of the Yichang Human Resources and Social Security Bureau.
