The Yangtze River Basin has long been the cradle of Chinese poetry. Along its banks, Yichang stands out with a rich cultural heritage as the hometown of Qu Yuan (c. 340–278 BC), whose life and works left a lasting impact on Chinese literature and inspired generations of poets.
The video series, "Ode to the Yangtze River: Poetic Journey Through Yichang," explores the landscapes and cultural legacy of this region within the greater Yangtze River Basin.
Episode 2 shines a spotlight on Qu Yuan, the legendary Chinese poet and statesman of the State of Chu during the Warring States period. He was born in today’s Zigui County, Yichang City, Hubei Province.
Part 1 of the series traces Qu Yuan’s life, highlighting his lifelong devotion to bringing peace and prosperity to his people, and revealing how his poetry was deeply rooted in the land that shaped him.
