The Yangtze River Basin is a region of great significance to the development of ancient Chinese poetry.

Yichang, a city along the river, boasts a long history and rich cultural heritage. It is the hometown of Qu Yuan (c. 340 BC - 278 BC) and Wang Zhaojun (born c. 50 BC), and has inspired many renowned poets and writers throughout history.

The video series "Ode to the Yangtze River: Poetic Journey through Yichang" explores the landscape and culture of Yichang as part of the greater Yangtze River Basin.

The focus of Episode 2 is Qu Yuan (c. 340 BC - 278 BC), Chinese poet and statesman in the State of Chu during the Warring States period. He was born in today’s Zigui County, Yichang City, Hubei Province.

Part 2 tells the story behind his famous poem "In Praise of the Orange-Tree” and explores his inquisitive spirit that has been passed down through generations. You can also see the customs of the Dragon Boat Festival in the video, such as dragon boat races and zongzi making.
