49,076 Chinese sturgeon released

On March 28, China’s Chinese Sturgeon Conservation Day, Yichang held a release event, sending 49,076 Chinese sturgeon into the Yangtze River.
The fish included captive-bred second- and third-generation juveniles.
A 140-million-year-old "living fossil,” the species was classified as Critically Endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in 2010.
