Zongzi production in full swing as Dragon Boat Festival approaches

At the Qugu International Agriculture Group’s workshop, workers are busy making zongzi as the Dragon Boat Festival draws near. The major agricultural and food group of Yichang is based in Zigui County, the hometown of Qu Yuan (339 – 278 BC), the famous poet in whose honor both zongzi and the Dragon Boat Festival were created.
This year's Dragon Boat Festival will take place on May 31, and zongzi makers in Yichang are ramping up production.
Zongzi, pyramid-shaped glutinous rice dumplings wrapped in leaves, are traditionally eaten during the Dragon Boat Festival to honor Qu Yuan, a poet from the ancient State of Chu (c. 1030 – 223 BC), who drowned himself in protest over the fall of his homeland.
