Yichang’s citrus industry has taken a major step north. The first refrigerated trucks carrying Yichang tangerines and Zigui navel oranges have departed for Beijing, marking the launch of a 662 million yuan (US$94 million) supply contract.

Yichang produces more than 4 million tons of citrus annually, while demand in Beijing has already reached about 800,000 tons per year and continues to grow. This direct cold-chain supply line is expected to strengthen Yichang citrus’s foothold in northern China and help more premium Hubei agricultural products reach national markets.
So far this season, Yichang has shipped 3.14 million tons of citrus.
