Yibin:Extraordinary Sturgeon Tale
The Yangtze sturgeon, often referred to as the "giant panda of the water," is a rare species endemic to the Yangtze River. In 2022, it was declared extinct in the wild by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
In Yibin, China’s largest broodstock population of Yangtze sturgeon is being carefully conserved. Through comprehensive measures, including artificial conservation, stock enhancement, patrol support, habitat restoration and protection, and natural reproduction experiments, the vision of "clear waters flowing east and the return of the majestic fish" is gradually becoming a reality.
