The Wucheng Nanshan Provincial Nature Reserve in Jinhua is the largest provincial-level nature reserve in Zhejiang Province. To date, more than 15 wild pangolins have been recorded here, forming the largest known population in Zhejiang and even across East China.

The reserve has established a dedicated conservation base for the protection and rescue of the Chinese pangolin (Manis pentadactyla). The species is mainly found south of the Yangtze River, but its population has declined sharply due to excessive hunting and habitat loss. In 2020, the Chinese pangolin was upgraded to China’s Class I protected species list.
