Yichang Vocational College of Science and Technology

Yichang Vocational College of Science and Technology is a public, full-time higher vocational college approved by the Hubei Provincial Government in 2023 and registered with China’s Ministry of Education. It is a key regional hub for training highly skilled workers. The college covers a planned area of 645 mu (approximately 42.5 hectares), with a total floor area of 210,000 square meters and total assets valued at 637 million yuan (US$94 million). It has 16 modern practical training bases. Currently, it enrolls 10,035 full-time students and employs 357 full-time faculty members, including 175 “dual-qualified” teachers and 39 provincial- and municipal-level master craftsmen, renowned teachers, and technical experts, reflecting strong infrastructure and teaching capacity.

The college holds four national-level prestigious credentials: a National Highly Skilled Workers Training Base, a National Training Base for Skilled Talent in Short Supply, one of the first training bases under the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security’s Skills Foundation Project, and the China National Training Base for WorldSkills Competition Industrial Control. Closely aligned with Hubei Province’s “51020” modern industrial clusters and Yichang’s distinctive advantageous industries, the college offers 21 programs across 10 major categories, including Equipment Manufacturing, Energy Power and New Materials, Transportation, and Biological and Chemical Engineering. This promotes the deep integration of the education chain, talent chain, industrial chain, and innovation chain.

Based in western Hubei and connected with surrounding urban agglomerations, the college initiated the establishment of the “Yichang-Jingzhou-Jingmen-Enshi” Urban Cluster Alliance of Technical Colleges and led the creation of the Yichang Equipment Manufacturing Vocational Education Alliance, which was selected as one of the first national-level model technical education alliances. To deepen industry-education integration, the college has partnered with key regional enterprises to offer tailored training programs, establishing a closed-loop training model that enables students to “enter school as trainees and graduate as employees.” Leveraging its national-level platforms, the college has provided various skills training programs for nearly 20,000 participants, empowering regional industrial transformation and upgrading, while also laying a solid foundation for skills exchange and talent development under the Belt and Road Initiative.

Committed to fostering virtue through education, the college has strengthened a comprehensive system of holistic education involving all staff, throughout the entire educational process, and in all aspects of student development. Its talent development practices have been promoted at the provincial level and featured in special reports by China Education Daily. Its teaching achievement, "Creating Six Happy Pathways to Guide Students’ Healthy Growth," has won the National Award for Teaching Achievements in Education. The “Seven-Heart” psychological education model has been selected as a national typical case and reported by China Central Television (CCTV). More than 100 students have been honored with titles such as “National Most Beautiful Vocational College Students” and “Hubei Provincial Technical Experts,”  demonstrating the integrated development of moral character and professional skills.
