In the first half of 2025, Yichang's intelligent computing scale surpassed 3,000 PetaFLOPS (P), and its digital economy core industries included 860 designated-size enterprises, generating 62.4 billion yuan in revenue—the highest growth rate in Hubei province.

The Yichang Municipal Bureau of Data Administration has facilitated collaboration between Three Gorges Changjiang Electric Big Data Technology (Yichang) Co., Ltd. and Dianjun District. This partnership led to the signing of 1,300 new server cabinet contracts at the Three Gorges Dongyemiao Data Center, adding 1,634 P of computing capacity. Key facilities, including Phase I of the National Computing Industry Innovation Center (Yichang) and the Dianjun District AI Computing Center, have been operational since the beginning of the year. A high-bandwidth direct connection with a latency below 3 milliseconds between Yichang and Wuhan has also been established, enhancing regional coordination.

Talent and industry ecosystem development have been prioritized. The city has implemented measures to attract digital economy talent, deploying 30 Digital Deputy Managers from local universities to enterprises. The Yichang Digital Economy Industrial Development Alliance, with over 180 members, has been formed to promote industry growth. By July 2025, the city added 126 new designated-size enterprises to its core digital economy sector.

Yichang aims to add over 3,000 P of computing capacity this year, targeting a total scale of 5,000 P. The city will prioritize permitted in-progress projects, accelerate key initiatives like the Central China Computing Operations and Scheduling Center, and enhance regional competitiveness. New high-speed direct links to Chongqing, Zhengzhou, Xi’an, and Changsha will be established. The city also plans to expand its industry scale, cultivate more designated-size enterprises, and implement digital economy policies to drive core digital economy revenue toward 100 billion yuan. Public data resources will be leveraged to deepen the integration of the digital and real economies.
