National basketball championship ends on high note

Wuhan-based Huazhong University of Science and Technology defeated the China Three Gorges University 78-53 on August 8 to win the Top University Invitation Cup, a national-level basketball competition. In the Yangtze River Three Gorges Basketball Championship held at the same time, Changyang County prevailed 72-62 against Wujiagang District to take the regional title.

The tournament featured a university invitational and a regional contest, with 48 games played over seven days at Yuan'an County Sports Gymnasium. The university match invited eight top universities in China, while the regional contest included 11 teams from local counties and cities. Hubei Province’s Xiantao City, known as a cradle for Chinese gymnast champions, also joined the tournament as a special guest team.
The Ocean University of China placed third in the university game, while the host Yuan'an County won bronze in the regional game.

During the tournament, Zhang Yifei of Central South University won the three-point contest, with Huang Jingjie of HUST winning the Dunk Crown title with a reverse windmill dunk. HUST’s Yang Qisong won the Most Valuable Player title for his outstanding performance throughout the tournament. Other honors included the Sportsmanship Award to Dangyang City, the Best Organization Award to Zigui County, and Outstanding Referee recognition to Wang Shaoyang.
