Two large-scale water-saving irrigation projects in Zhijiang have begun operations to enhance water efficiency and secure food supplies.

The projects in Jiangkou Town and Liuxiang Village received a combined investment of 106 million yuan (US$14.9 million). They will upgrade irrigation systems across 151,700 mu (10,113 hectares), involving seven pump stations and the installation of 33.83 km of new pipelines. The initiatives are expected to save 7.134 million cubic meters of water annually.

Construction began in May during the low-water period of the Yangtze River. After more than three months, water transfer and irrigation efficiencies have significantly improved.
