Yichang successfully completed its first battery swapping test for a pure-electric vessel on October 17, as the Huahang Xinneng 2 replaced its battery within 10 minutes at the Baiyang Comprehensive Terminal on the Yangtze River.

The Huahang Xinneng 2 is a fully battery-powered container ship equipped with a mobile battery swapping system. Its box-style batteries are designed as standard 20-foot equivalent containers. This design enables the vessel to use the port's existing container bridge cranes to swap the batteries during routine cargo handling operations.

This system not only greatly shortens charging time but also improves safety by physically separating water and electricity.

During the test, the law enforcement officials from the Yichang Maritime Safety Administration were on site to provide full-process support. They established a multi-dimensional monitoring network that integrated drones, patrol boats, and intelligent surveillance to cover all phases of the test.
