Yichang's foreign trade surges in first three quarters

Yichang's foreign trade reached 40.09 billion yuan (US$5.63 billion) in the first three quarters of 2025, a 21 percent increase from last year. Exports totaled 32.55 billion yuan (up 28.2 percent), while imports reached 7.54 billion yuan.
During this period, Yichang's general trade imports and exports grew by 33.4 percent to 36.45 billion yuan, accounting for 90.9 percent of the total trade value. Private enterprises led the surge, with trade rising 29.3 percent to 31.52 billion yuan, representing 78.6 percent of the total 40.09 billion yuan. Processing trade and bonded logistics contributed 3.3 percent and 5.6 percent respectively.
ASEAN countries and Brazil were key trade partners. Trade with Belt and Road countries reached 26.67 billion yuan, making up 66.5 percent of total trade, while trade with RCEP members grew 22.9 percent to 14.14 billion yuan.
Electromechanical products, labor-intensive goods, and agricultural products drove export growth, increasing 43.7 percent, 35.3 percent, and 12 percent, respectively.
Agricultural products, basic organic chemicals, and electromechanical products were the primary imported goods, with agricultural product imports totaling 1.58 billion yuan.
