A new container shipping route from Shuifu Port in Yunnan Province to Yichang launched on November 8, further supporting development along the Yangtze River Economic Belt.

Located at the meeting point of the Yangtze River's upper and middle reaches and home to the Three Gorges and Gezhouba Dams, Yichang serves as the "Gateway to the Three Gorges" and is vital to China's Yangtze River Economic Belt. Shuifu Port, a strategic hub at the intersection of the Yangtze, Jinsha, and Heng rivers, links three key economic regions and handles over 10 million tons of cargo annually.

The new route takes advantage of both ports’ strategic locations and the Yangtze’s golden waterway, enabling direct cargo delivery across a distance of 1,200 kilometers in approximately 10 days.

The Shuifu Port–Yichang container route will serve as an economic link between Yunnan and Hubei, extending its influence to surrounding regions. By shifting bulk cargo shipping to container transportation, the new route provides a greener and more efficient solution for the transportation of bulk materials within the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
