Yichang's total aquatic product output in 2025 increased by 4.41 percent from the previous year, reaching 226,500 tons, while its aquaculture area remained stable at over 190,000 mu, according to the Yichang Aquatic Technology Station.
In 2025, the city bred more than 200 million high-quality fish fries across various aquatic species.
The Zhijiang Yichen Cooperative expanded its operations with a 10,000-square-meter industrialized perch breeding workshop, producing 20 million perch fries annually. Zhijiang Tengda Ecological Agriculture Development Co., Ltd. bred 16 million fries of the new mandarin fish variety Huakang No. 2, while Yichang Sanjiang Fisheries Co., Ltd. raised 3 million copper fish fries. Yichang Yourui Ecological Agriculture Co., Ltd. reported annual sales of 5 million eels.

Yichang's total sturgeon biomass has surpassed 12,000 tons, with an estimated annual caviar output of 220 tons and a perch production of 8,000 tons.
Additionally, Yichang Fumeiyuan Food Co., Ltd. has acquired advanced processing equipment and boosted its production capacity to process 150 tons of freshwater fish daily. The Tongtai Village Turtle and Tortoise Breeding Demonstration Base in Dangyang has also been upgraded, with its pet turtle business generating an annual output value exceeding 600 million yuan (US$86.2 million).

The Yichang Aquatic Technology Station's quarterly price analysis reports for aquatic products have significantly impacted the local industry. Aquaculture operators in Yichang adjust their breeding strategies and time their sales based on these reports to maximize profitability.
Zhijiang Shengwei Aquaculture Service Co., Ltd. launched a service program that has recruited over 50 aquaculture households. The initiative aims to reduce breeding costs by more than 1 yuan per kilogram, increase the survival rate of aquatic products to over 93 percent, and improve order fulfillment rates to over 80 percent. As a result, participating households are expected to see their annual income rise by more than 20,000 yuan on average.
Yichang is also advancing its plan for aquaculture wastewater treatment by 2025. The city is promoting green aquaculture technologies and high-efficiency wastewater treatment solutions through demonstration projects. Over the past year, it tested 14 batches of 298 aquaculture wastewater samples, all yielding satisfactory results.
In 2025, Yichang's fisheries sector, supported by structural adjustments and eco-friendly initiatives, made notable strides in ecological improvement, industrial optimization, and steady economic growth.
