The first production line at a major fluorosilicone chemical industry park in Yichang began operations this month. Located in the Baiyang Industrial Park of the Yichang High-Tech Zone, the park is a joint venture between Do-Fluoride New Materials Co., Ltd. and Yihua Group.

Workers operate on a production line of anhydrous hydrogen fluoride at the workshop of Hubei Fluorosilicone Yicheng New Materials Co., Ltd.

The newly launched line, with an annual capacity of 30,000 tons of anhydrous hydrogen fluoride, started production on January 6 and is now operating at full design capacity.

Adopting a resource-recycling model, the fluorosilicone park utilizes fluorosilicic acid, a byproduct of local phosphorus chemical production that typically sells for only a few hundred yuan per ton. After processing, the material is transformed into high-value products, with prices reaching hundreds of thousands to millions of yuan per ton.

Yichang is the largest phosphate ore base along the Yangtze River. With proven reserves of 4.3 billion tons, it accounts for 15 percent of the national total, supporting a well-developed phosphorus chemical industry in the region.

“By fully leveraging the value of fluorosilicic acid to produce fluorosilicone products, we have created a closed-loop system, enabling exponential growth in industrial added value,” said Xie Chenlong, safety director of Hubei Fluorosilicone Yicheng New Materials Co., Ltd.

Further high-value projects are underway. An electronic-grade hydrofluoric acid production line with an annual capacity of 20,000 tons is expected to begin operation in April. Facilities for lithium hexafluorophosphate and electronic-grade phosphoric acid are scheduled to start construction in the first half of this year.

"Lithium hexafluorophosphate is a core material for new-energy battery electrolytes. This project marks our shift from traditional fluorine chemicals into the new-energy sector in Yichang and will help drive the formation of a complete fluorosilicone industry chain," said Xie.

Launched in December 2024, the park also plans to develop projects along the silicon chemical value chain, including electronic specialty gases, silicon-carbon anodes, lithium batteries, and energy storage systems. Upon full completion, its annual output value is projected to reach 20 billion yuan.
