China's free HPV vaccine program delivered its first shipment to Yichang on March 16.
Starting November 10, 2025, China added HPV vaccine in the National Immunization Program, providing free bivalent HPV vaccine to girls born on or after November 10, 2011, and have reached 13 years of age.

More than 10,000 doses of a domestically produced bivalent HPV vaccine will be sent to 121 children's clinics in Yichang. Girls born on or after November 10, 2011, and who are at least 13 years old can soon receive the vaccine for free.

Experts from the city's Center for Disease Control and Prevention say the vaccine targets HPV 16 and HPV 18, two high-risk types responsible for 70 percent of cervical cancers worldwide. Vaccinating around age 13 provides the strongest and longest-lasting protection.
